Paws of War is thrilled to announce the CDC has made arrangements for Harley to stay in the U.S. and be reunited with her soldier Staff Sergeant Amjad Kirrish after a quarantine period. The CDC working with Paws of War and elected officials and came up with a plan that resolved all of their concerns and saves Harley.
Staff Sergeant Amjad Kirrish and his wife Scarlett have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support, are overjoyed and feel so blessed that they will be getting their baby Harley home soon.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been involved with the story of Amjad and Harley on social media, and became an army advocating on their behalf, reaching out to government offices, elected officials and offering their thoughts and prayers.
While there is no way we can thank everyone individually who worked both publicly and behind the scenes to make this happen, there are a few people we would like to acknowledge.
The Long Island congressional delegation and the swift actions of congresswoman Kathleen M. Rice and her dedicated staff, congressman Peter T. King, congressman Gregory W. Meeks, congressman Lee M. Zelden, and congressman Thomas R. Suozzi, who worked continuously from the start to mediate with the CDC to come up with this positive outcome. The effort to save Harley was truly bi-partisan and reached across the country even including Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii. Congresswoman Julia Brownley from A.J’s home district worked closely with A.J., Paws of War and the CDC. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand also took up Harley’s cause. We would like to thank senator Monica R. Martinez and Senator Phil Boyle who also offered their support. We would like to thank Lara Trump for her continuous support from the beginning advocating from a personal level for Harley and A.J.
Paws of War would like to thank the law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP for all of their counsel, guidance and advice navigating the legal issues and paperwork involved in this case. Their firm spent a considerable amount of time and resources pro-bono for Harley and Amjad. For that we will all be forever grateful.
This was truly an international effort, our friend and rescue partner Leo from Alamal Foundation in Jordan was instrumental in getting Harley safely to the U.S. The Media also played a crucial part in getting Harley and Amjad’s story national coverage and attention.
Harley will have to receive certain vaccinations and be quarantined for several weeks. Paws of War has committed to cover this expense for Amjad and Scarlett, and would like to thank all of our supporters for their continuing commitment to supporting Harley, Amjad and Scarlett and the rescued pets of our overseas soldiers.

War TOrn pups & CATS
In the Midst of War, a Soldier hears a whimper. They pause for a moment, and see an injured, malnourished dog or cat. The dog or cat reminds the soldier of home. As the soldier bends down and scoops the cat or dog up, two lives are saved. At the moment, amongst all the chaos and destruction, a bond is formed.
