Pairing service dogs with military veterans suffering from PTSD has proven to help the healing process. According to the National Center for Health Research, studies have shown that a dog's presence, loyalty and love are known to improve heart health by lowering blood pressure and regulating the heart rate during stressful situations.

Paws of War, a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs, gives them the necessary training and then pairs them with veterans in need of service dogs, is pairing two U.S. veterans with working dogs.

A U.S. Air Force veteran and a Flagler County Sheriff’s Officer will be uniting with service dogs through the Paws of War program. The nonprofit organization rescues dogs, gives them the necessary training, and then pairs them with veterans in need of service pets.

The Giants honored U.S. Marines Sgt. Gary Clark before the game as part of their Salute To Service by surprising him with a new service dog named Athena. Clark loved the gesture and Giants fans in attendance exploded in applause as they too shared in the joy of the moment.
